Calendar of Death
|
One of the places you would expect to find some degree of compassion is in a hospital, but one now-deceased British man discovered that this is not always the case.
When 37-year-old husband and dad Stewart Fleming entered a UK hospital, even a letter from his general practitioner, alerting them of his dire situation, wasn't good enough to get emergency care from the staff on duty at the time.
Instead of being treated for his ailment, the obviously suffering gent was made to wait for six hours, doubling over in excruciating pain.
Why, you ask?
The reason, according to reports, is that the boneheaded doctors and nurses were too busy posing for a charity calendar, in which they dressed up like film stars and made light of hospital waiting times.
By the time Fleming was finally treated, his condition had worsened and he soon died.
Sadly, this is nothing new for this particular healthcare facility, which also made the news when it left the dead body of a patient sitting on a toilet for several hours.
What's really horrendous is that they actually plan to go ahead with publishing the calendar in question.

A Bad Habit Is Hard to Break, But...
|
I certainly don't rejoice over anyone getting hurt or injured, but sometimes individuals contribute to their own misfortune in really...well..incredibly stupid ways.
Such was the case in a recent bizarre situation that occurred in Hong Kong.
A guy whose many years of smoking caused him to have a serious lung condition was, as expected, put on oxygen due to this, in order to assist him with his breathing. The oxygen tank was kept in his home, with all of the appropriate directions for its usage, which he should have followed carefully- right?- except that he neglected to pay attention to one extremely important warning...
NEVER SMOKE A CIGARETTE NEAR AN OXYGEN TANK!
DUH! Even the most ignorant buffoon knows that, but this dude decided that his need for a few puffs of nicotine sticks was more important than his personal safety. So, while using the oxygen ventilator, he decided to make the boneheaded decision to light up, with the tubes still sticking out of his nostrils.
The result? You guessed it. Serious burns to his face when the oxygen tank exploded.
The injured man was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Movie Night Fiasco
|
Does it ever just pluck your nerves when you pay a sizable amount of money to go see a film at a movie theater, only to end up sitting near people who flap their jaws throughout the whole thing, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are disturbing others? Sometimes, it just makes you want to go ballistic, but, of course, most of us just suffer in silence.
Apparently, one 29-year-old South Philly moviegoer was unwilling to hold back his irritation over chatty fellow patrons who gabbed throughout a Christmas holiday showing of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
The peeved dude showed his disfavor, at first, by telling the continually talkative family to shut it down, even tossing popcorn at the son. When the dad objected to what he appeared to perceive to be a threat, his ticked-off nemesis responded by pulling out a .380-caliber gun and shooting the father in the left arm.
Though no one was seriously injured, everybody else ran for safety and the satisfied 29-year-old finally sat down to enjoy the movie in peace.
Not sure whether he finished viewing the pic, but cops arrived and arrested him for aggravated assault and attempted murder. |

Information, Please!
|
A little blue pill may be the answer to the CIA's problem in war-ravaged Afghanistan.
The U.S. agency has put forth all of its best efforts to get chieftans and warlords in that country to provide useful information about the infamous Taliban and their activities. Things haven't always gone so well, regarding their assistance, so the CIA has been trying its best to make it worth their while. They have been offering these folks just about anything that floats their boat, like weapons, cash money, toys, dental work, etc., all in an attempt to counter equally tempting incentives from the Taliban leaders.
It's been quite a contest to see which side can win over the enterprising Afghan warlords, as they gleefully listen to hear who has the most enticing proposition to present to them.
Well,according to media reports, the CIA may finally have trumped the Taliban's ace with their latest plan to offer cooperating Afghans the prescription drug Viagra in exchange for their help. The very popular blue pill that is known for helping less...er..."potent" gentlemen regain their "vigor"ought to inspire a lot more fellas to spill their guts to U.S. intelligence now.

Happy Landing...NOT!
|
Flying can be pretty nerve-wracking nowadays, given long lines for security checks, missing baggage and nutty fellow passengers going off the deep end.
Well, some passengers on a British airlines just got one more reason to dislike flying the "friendly skies."
Folks who recently chose to travel to Paris, France on the more economical Flybe airlines soon regretted their decision to do so.
Why?
Imagine, sitting back in your seat , awaiting a landing at Charles de Gaulle airport, only to be interrupted by the voice of the pilot on the plane's address system, announcing to you that the plane is not going to be landing, after all. The 30-year-veteran informed passengers that he did not have the qualifications to land in fog and returned to where the flight originally took off.
A spokesman for the airlines explained that the pilot's actions were likely due to the fact that he wasn't trained to land in fog with an updated aircraft.
Uh...excuse me, but isn't it a known fact that Paris has fog? So, why'd they allow an unprepared person to fly the plane?
My advice? Travel by train next time. It takes longer, but, at least, you arrive at your destination. |

Is Oprah Moving to D.C.?
|
Okay, everybody knows that Oprah Winfrey was helpful to President-elect Barack Obama, by showing him some public support during his run for the highest political office in the land. She is credited with throwing around her influence on his behalf and prompting some of her Hollywood pals to make generous contributions to his campaign.
It seems now, though, that Obama may have a bit of a problem getting rid of her, post-election.
Rumor now has it that Oprah has been scouting out a $50 million mansion in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C. The showplace reportedly has nine bedrooms and fourbathrooms and is allegedly not too far from where the White House is.
Is this just coincidental or, as some gossips are speculating, is her intent to move to D.C., in hopes of levying her influence to the new Prez?
Many admire Oprah as a good talk show host and a great donator to charity. Some critics feel, however, that she is on a huge power trip and a move to Washington means that she intends to try to influence the brand new President to support her own personal agenda.

Stop Butting In!
|
Nebraska isn't known for being the most exciting place in the world to live. Perhaps that's what prompted Nebraskan Thomas Larvie to embark on his unique series of crimes that brought him a momentary 15-minutes of fame.
The 35-year-old began his naughty deeds way back in early 2007, when he started leaving impressions of certain parts of his anatomy on the windows of churches, businesses and schools in the area where he lived. Reportedly, he first slathered himself in petroleum jelly or greasy lubricants, before making his "mark".
Not surprisingly, the offended citizens were not very happy with the anonymous mischief-maker.
Before being caught, however, he attained a sort of weird celebrity, by being labeled the "Butt Bandit" by locals in Valentine, Nebraska, even though he, technically, never stole anything from any of the establishments he vandalized.
Well, of course, Larvie's disgusting crime spiral was fated to come to a close and. When authorities found out that he was the sicko leaving his special...er...
"imprint", the cops promptly arrested him and his high-profile butt in mid-November.
He was charged with disturbing the peace and public indecency and given a sentence of a year in the "Big House" for his tacky exploits.

Man Builds His Own Babe
|
The "high tech age" can remedy a number of surprising things, including beefing up your love life.
An 33-year-old Ontario man named Le Trung, looking for the "perfect" woman, decided to make one himself, using the magic of robotics. At a cost of £14,000 and a couple of years of effort, he managed to create Aiko, his concrpt of an android lover.
She is a stunning beauty with a knock-out figure, can speak, cleans his house without a complaint and is a companion for any lonely bachelor. Canadian inventor Le claims that his robotic "love thang" even responds to touch, although he has not attempted intimacy with her. He is toying with the idea of redesigning her software to make this possible.
Aiko is a chauvinist's dream woman. She will never get fat, never need sleep, never try to assert her independence, never argue and doesn't need to eat or drink, which means, of course, that wining and dining are not necessary to make her more agreeable. She is a "Stepford Wife" made into a reality.
Le plans to clone Aiko and sell the clones to individuals. who need her for taking care of their homes or for companionship. |

Take a Seat
|
Going to a sports bar is supposed to be about friends getting together, talkin' trash, joking around, and hoisting up a few wet ones as they watch their favorite athletic teams compete on huge television screens.
However, one New Jersey woman who recently patronized a Pennsylvania bar. close to the Allentown area. found that the only thing getting wet in the place the night she was there was her.
When nature inevitably called, she went into the restroom of the bar/restaurant, which should have taken only a few minutes, but she ended up staying much longer than she originally anticipated, due to a freak accident that occurred.
While sitting on the toilet seat in a handicapped stall, the seat allegedly cracked, unexpectedly, and, according to her, she was dumped right down into the toilet bowl, where she was stuck for a good 20 minute period of time. This created both a painful and embarrassing situation for her, not surprisingly. She claims that the humiliating event caused a re-injury of an earlier hip injury and...you guessed it...has filed a lawsuit.
The ticked off miss is suing both the bar and the manufacturer of the toilet seat for her pain and suffering.

Future Gansta?
|
When you think of being in the first grade, you think of sweet, innocent little tots learning to read, spell and count, coloring adorable pictures, making cute remarks and skipping around during recess.
I guess things have changed, however, if what happened recently in a Pembroke Pines, Florida elementary school is any indication.
Allegedly, a 7-year-year did a shakedown of a fellow first-grader by robbing him in the school restroom, as he held a knife to the poor tyke's nose.
Young Gangsta
His take? One buck.
It seems that the little thug-in-training got the weapon he used in his mini-robbery from home. One can only speculate what other kind of things he must have been learning at home.
The tiny victim of the crime told his mom what happened and she reported it school authorities. They suspended the wee perpetrator for 10 days and the likelihood is that he will be put in an "alternative" school.
Oh, great. Now, he can be negatively influenced by older kids who are even worse than he is! This kid needs serious help!
It hasn't been decided whether or not he will be charged with a criminal offense.

Teen Kills Self Before Online Spectators
|
Internet chat rooms can be a place to meet new people who share common interests and who want a place to freely express their opinions. They can also open the door to things that are not so good.
A sad example of this is a 19-year-old teen who committed suicide, while others watched, as he did the act on webcam. He had posted his plans on the chat room forum earlier and other members responded by making fun of him and deriding him with cruel comments, even encouraging him to go through with it.
Allegedly, they thought he wasn't serious and that it was some type of joke.
Even when the 1,500 spectators saw him taking the pills that eventually caused his death, many continued to post nasty remarks and to sit back and watch the event taking place, without contacting anybody for help. They reportedly watched for hours until they finally concluded that it was, in fact, not a hoax, which is when they finally contacted somebody who informed the cops in his area.
They got there too late, though, and found the 19-year-old expired.
Believe it or not, some viewers continued to crack jokes, expressing absolutely no remorse.

One Size Doesn't Fit All
|
If you're an inmate serving time in the "big house" in Montreal, you may be able to find a clever way to get out and you don't even have to plan a prison break to do it.
How?
Just eat...and eat and eat and eat, until you become so grossly corpulent, so belly-busting huge, so amazingly gargantuan that you become too fat to fit into your prison cell.
That is what happened in the case of one "lucky" 37-year-old big guy, originally sentenced to a 5-year prison term for an act of lawlessness.
Seems that "Big Mike", as he was popularly known, was probably not spending his free time lifting weights in his facility's gym or attempting self-improvement, but scarfing down the chow and expanding his already large body mass.
Mikey's size became such a problem that he was unable to fit in his prison cell's chair or fit into his tiny bed properly. There simply was not enough room for him.
The solution?
When other prisons were also unable to accommodate the bug guy, the authorities decided to let the guy go free.
Wonder if this will make prisoners start putting down the barbells and gulping down the carbs?

What Was She Thinking?
|
Most of us are familiar with the email scam that involves a message being sent from somebody claiming to be a government official or member of the royal family from a third world country or a long-lost relative of the email recipient, etc.. The "Nigerian" scam is one of the oldest cons in the book, but, believe it or not, there are actually people who still get sucked into it.
The person sending the email supposedly says, due to security threats, he needs a way to safely transfer a few million dollars worth of funds to a bank account outside his country, so he implores you to "help" by sending a big fee and your checking account information and you will get 10-30% of these millions wired to your account.
When a registered nurse from Oregon received one of these emails, she fell for it hook line and sinker, told to wire $8,200 and she would be wired millions
After the so-called "transfer" of millions was delayed, she sent more money after promises that there would be a larger reward. This went on for two years before she realized she was being scammed.
How much money did she lose?

Hero's Dark Side
|
Firefighters are heroic figures. They put their lives on the line to help put out fires and rescue people. They show courage in the face of tremendously dangerous situations. These are people we revere, because of what they do.
Unfortunately, there are always a few individuals who come along to tarnish the image of their profession.
Such was the recent case of a 19-year-veteran of the Prince George's Fire Department in the D.C,/Maryland area.
So, what exactly did he do?
The 42-year-old firefighter allegedly set fire to an area behind an Asian restaurant in the wee hours, just before going to work one early November morning. He apparently did not count on the fact that there were security cameras around, which recorded him burning paper near the rear exit of the establishment.
Believe it or not, the firefighting arsonist returned to the scene of his crime, except he came next time around in his job capacity, to help put out the fire he had started.
Once the surveillance tapes disclosed the truth, he was arrested and jailed. His colleagues are still trying to figure out his motives for trying to torch the Asian takeout place,
