Ever wondered what inspires those people you see pigging out on television in competitive eating contests or a cash prize or 15, minutes of fame? For some reason, they actually consider it a "sport", though, in many circles, it just boils down to basic gluttony.
But, to each his own!
Perhaps, however, the gentleman who participated in one recent pancake eating contest, during his hometown's celebration of Pancake Week, should have been a little less competitive.
38-year-old Russian Boris food lover Isayev pleased the enthusiastic crowd of onlookers and fans, who watched as he stuffed himself with 43 calorie-laden pancakes, all filled with mounds of thick banana and cream,
All seemed to be going well for a moment, as Isayev feasted on the delicious treats, until something went terribly wrong.
According to witnesses, the competitor began to foam at the mouth and then passed out, collapsing on the stage where the contest was being held. When they realized that Isayev was clearly in trouble, attempts were made to revive him, all, unfortunately, unsuccessful.
He died on the site of his last eating competition, allegedly by choking on some of the pancakes he was scarfing down.
Death by food is not cool.
