Just when you thought you were properly schooled in knowing how to decipher those aggravating email scams and hoaxes, yet another one has been making the rounds to the inboxes of several individuals.
The problem is that, instead of some bogus Nigerian begging for money for a new kidney or telling you that you just won millions in some foreign lottery, the email in questions tells you something designed to frighten you out of your wits and money.
The email sender writes that he is a hired hitman who will carry out the plan to off you, if thousands of dollars are not sent to him to stop it. He then goes on to warn you, with even greater threats, not to get in touch with the cops or other authorities or he will follow through on the "hit."
Another email is then sent later from a second sender who claims to be from the FBI and declaring that the "hitman" has been caught with your information. As you've probably guessed, the "agent" then asks for "verification" or proof of your identity, obviously in an attempt to get your personal information.
